Christopher Columbus: Hero or Bully?

The BrainPOP video that you just watched provided a balanced view of Christopher Columbus' strengths and weaknesses. In your opinion, was Christopher Columbus a hero who should be honored with a national holiday or was he a bully who took advantage of the native people of North America? In your post be sure to include at least three complete sentences. Your first sentence should list one of Columbus' positive contributions, the second should include one of his negative character traits and the final sentence should be your conclusion as to whether or not you think he was a hero or a bully.

    One thing Christopher Columbus did that was positive was that he never gave up and showed perseverance. Also,one negative thing he did was that he made some of the Native Americans his slave. I think he was a bully because, he made a lot of bad choices like stealing stuff from Native Americans. So, I think we should not really have a holiday for him.

    He was looking for India and he couldn't get there and he find a good idea to get there.He was going to land in India but he landed in Bahamas.I think he was a bully because he stole the gold and food and he hurt the Indians and made them do what he says.

    Some people think that Cristopher Colombus is good while some people think he is bad. let's hear some pro's and con's.
    A pro is that, Cristopher Columbus was brave enough to sail the ocean and find new land. A con is that he stole that native's land plus, he stole their GOLD!!!

    Christopher Columbus sailed but never got to reach Asia but by accident got to Bahamas. The Native Americans already were at the land but Christopher Columbus took there land and put Native Americans as slaves. Queen Isabella paid for his trip and he thanked her.     Christopher Columbus found what he calls "the New World" and that's a positive thing about him. He claimed land that wasn't his and stole food and gold from the Native Americans.     One positive thing about Chirstopher Columbus was that he obeyed his king and queen. A negetive thing about him was that he stole the "indian's" gold an addition, he also slaved some of them. I think he is a hero because he did do his orders however, back then (about 500 years ago) it was normal to steal things and slave other people.

    I think he is a hero because he did what the Queen and King said, When he got to Bahamas he started to
    be a bully like taking over the land and taking food,gold.he though it was in Asia .
    something good about him is he is famous and did what the Queen and King said and also he is rich.
    He Explorer alot of land.

    Christopher Columbus respected his queen and did what she said and thanked her.but Christopher Columbus stole land that wasn't his and treated the native Americans like slaves.but i think Christopher Columbus is a hero cause if he was gonna get there he was going to the treat them like slave's but slavery never ended back then and had order from his queen so i think he is a hero

    I would see why people think Christopher Colombus discovered North America,but he never reached North America,he only reached the Bahamas,Central and South America.One good and admiring thing he did was he never gave up,he tried going to India many times,but he never did.One negative about him is that he stole everything the native people needed to survive like food,and he turned the native people into slaves.My opinion on Christopher Colombus is that,he is a bully because he stole everything,claimed land that was already claimed,and turned the native people into slaves.So we dont need a holiday for him.

    Christopher Columbus had made some positive chooses cause he found land for his queen Elizabeth and, he a quicker route from span to south america and, north america.Some of the things he did that was negative was that he made the land he found (south america) had been already found by native Americans.He also had to take there gold and,knew that it was not his.And he made a mistake that made us think native Americans are Indians.So I think Christopher Columbus is a bully cause if he had never found South America WE NEVER will have war with the people from Span

    The Queen of Spain liked Columbus because he brought her gold and coins. Christopher Columbus claimed a country but it already had people their. I don't think that Christopher Columbus was a hero because when the Queen told him to look for land he went to go find some and when he did that he tried to call it Spain and people wear already living their and he maid them slaves and took their gold and coins.

    The good thing he did was that he discovered the new world.
    The bad thing he did was that he enslaved the natives and stole there valuables
    I think he is a bully because he could have worked together with the natives and shared there resources, instead he enslaved them all.

    One thing that is positive about Christopher Columbus is that he found a new world because he was really trying to go to India but he didn't but he still found a new world. A thing that is negative is that he landed in to a different land than India and he made the Native Americans confused that he said "Hello Indians " but he made the Native Americans be confused.I think that Christopher Columbus is not really a hero because he landed on different peoples land but he did find a new world but he made the Native Americans confused.
