Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - Day of Service - January 2015

The third Monday in January (1/19/15) will be a federal holiday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. In 1994, Congress designated this holiday as a national day of service to honor Dr. King's life of service to others. Therefore, we should not think of it as a day "off" but rather as a day "on!" It's an opportunity to answer Dr. King's challenge to do something to help others and make this country a better place in which to live. In your comment to this post, please write a sentence describing at least one thing you admire about Dr. King and also include some ideas about what you plan to do to help others on this year's day of service.

    I admire Dr.King because he was not afraid to speak up. On Monday I would donate canned food and clothes to the poor.

    What I admire about Dr.King is even that I know he was a great man because he helped black people know
    that they should be treated better. On Monday I will help the people who pick up trash by picking up garbage at the park .

    I admire Dr.King because he gave great speeches and he died when he was young. On Monday, I am going to read a lot of books about how Dr. King died.

    I am inspired by Dr.King because he used words instead of war and kept it that way. On his holiday I will drive around with my mom and find a person on the curb and hand him/her money

    i admire dr. king because he helped blacks and whits be in the same school and jobs . if it weren't for him, Alexandria and Daunte and Andrue would not be here. On his day of servic e I prayed to God and Jesus that Martin and his father have a great time in Heaven.

    I ADMIRE DR.KING BECAUSE HE MADE BLACK AND WHITES TOGEAtHER and if he wasn't alive we wouldn't be in the same school.
